Overview

Conceptualize is a set of brand tools in the browser.

Each tool records a brand decision with its reason, so a designer, a client and an AI agent all build from the same source.

I designed and built it alone, in code, with Claude Code: from the first sketch of the record to ten working tools.

To add

Hero recording: one brand going from blank to a finished print piece, 60–90 seconds.

01

The problem

A brand drifts once more than one person makes things from it.

The problem

Guidelines live in PDFs and decks, so people approximate and agents guess.

A plausible guess is the most expensive kind: nobody notices until the brand no longer looks like itself.

02

The record

The record

Every choice is written down where the work happens: the value, and why it was chosen.

Colour roles, type levels, grid, motion timing and logo use live in one record, as plain files people and agents can both read.

The reason matters most. With it, the next person can decide a case nobody has drawn yet.

To add

Still: one brand's record as Markdown files, beside the tool that wrote them.

03

The tools

The tools

Ten tools sit on the record: Logo, Typography, Colour, Grid, Layout, Icons, Shape, Motion, Components and Applications.

Each edits on the canvas, saves as you go and writes back to the record. There is no Save button, and no text field where a choice will do.

To add

Three short clips: Logo construction, Typography scale, Colour roles.

04

Guardrails

Guardrails

People who are not designers should be able to make things without breaking the brand.

Colour comes as 13 roles with contrast checks, not a palette to pick from.

Marketing, print and packaging layouts draw the logo, type and colour by role. Change one colour and every piece follows; an off-brand pairing is never on the menu.

To add

Clip: one colour change flowing through a poster, a card and a pack.

05

Handover and the fresh-agent test

Handover

For Recess Footwear I turned the identity into a handover kit: a README that says which file to read for each job, the record and the tokens.

Then I gave it to an agent with no project context and asked for something new. Wherever it guessed, I added the missing rule or pointed it to the right file. The method follows the agentic brand systems approach Little Plains has published.

To add

Recording 2: the kit's files, a fresh agent making an asset, and the rule added after it guessed.

06

What fell short

What fell short

Agents add before they remove.

They reach for display faces that are in fashion, and they copy a reference's surface rather than its behaviour. One tidy-up pass made the logo tool worse, and I put it back.

So the record now says what not to do as well as what to do, and a person approves each change before it lands.

07

What's next

What's next

Approvals between the client, the studio and the agents.

When three parties can all propose a change, the record has to show who asked, who approved and why. The first version is already in the record.
